So you'll probably find the review scheduled to be posted tomorrow a small treat.

I read a Dutch translation of The Burning Court years ago, before the blog existed, but have to reread it in English as the Dutch translation left me completely unimpressed. And it could have simply been the translation that was the problem.

Congrats on your purchases. Dell Mapbacks are great and so glad Ramble House and James Scott Byrnside have brought them back. The spine is in rough cosmetic shape but I found a place that makes facsimile book jackets. I'm totally doing that. In fact, at $25, I'm paying more for the dust jacket than I did his the book. But it's my favorite novel by my favorite author and it was a great deal. I also picked up two Dell Mapbacks, Death-Watch and Hag's Nook. They are beautiful books. You're one of the few people I know that would be interested. I just finished The Sleeping Sphinx for a second time and I'm reading The Peacock Feather Murders for a second time. I literally don't remember anything about it. Thanks as always for indulging me and thank you for your top notch reviewing!Bradhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01686555333603605203noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5516189026477178777.post-51044053076683040852022-07-15T12:23:03.015+02:002022-07-15T12:23:03.015+02:00Glad to hear you liked them and they're both g...Glad to hear you liked them and they're both great for different reasons, but can go along with liking The Hangman's Handyman ever so slightly more than Rim of the Pit. But it's hard to pick a definite favorite.

Clayton Rawson is another writer who needs a second look on this blog. But hope you enjoy them as well.
TomCathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03415176301265218101noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5516189026477178777.post-20243711686591851172022-07-13T22:16:24.127+02:002022-07-13T22:16:24.127+02:00I bought Handyman and this and read them in that o...I bought Handyman and this and read them in that order and best as I remember I liked them in that order. (I've bought both and sent them as gifts too.) Thank you for giving them updated reviews. I need to go back and reread them both (like so many.) I own the 4 (?) Clayton Rawson novels (a couple of them vintage) and haven't read a single one. This has given me reason to. Thank you!Bradhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01686555333603605203noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5516189026477178777.post-60682750138330910042022-07-01T12:36:18.215+02:002022-07-01T12:36:18.215+02:00Just a small dab of luminous paint that lights up ...Just a small dab of luminous paint that lights up in the dark. Nothing suspicious or something to worry about. :)

If you're going to reread Talbot, I recommend you first reread The Hangman's Handy before tackling Rim of the Pit again. I had forgotten quite a lot of details and refreshing my memory about Rogan Kincaid and The Hangman's Handyman enhanced the enjoyment of revisiting Rim of the Pit. All told, Rim of the Pit was one of the first locked-room mysteries I've ever read once I "graduated" from just reading mystery manga and video games, so I'm actually very willing to give the book another look-see on your recommendation at some point!I.
