It's their wild, untamed imagination and innovative ideas. Fearn's Thy Arm Alone is not flawless as a novel, but has a unique, once-in-a-lifetime solution elevating it slightly above the status of a mere pulp mystery. He also elevated himself with Pattern of Murder. One of his best! I think I might put something by him on the "sooner rather than later" list with Goodnight Irene.Kacey Crainhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13492997736737601983noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5516189026477178777.post-21167540250487751942020-12-29T05:22:12.903+01:002020-12-29T05:22:12.903+01:00This one sounds great. The fact that nothing of them survives makes them all the more alluring, but there's still a small flicker of hope. Time travel! I'm sure a time traveling salvage operation in the future is how the manuscripts went missing in the first place. ;)

Have you read Fearn? He might have been a second-string mystery writer, but he was the undisputed master of the pulp-style impossible crime story. I'm glad to see the crazy pulp-styled sort of locked-room mystery getting more attention. Done right, and it sounds like Lanteaume did, they can be really unforgettable.

I almost wish you hadn't written about those burned manuscripts, though. I mean, I'd have read about them eventually, but I'll be having nightmares about them tonight... If only there was someone like the Emperor Augustus, who stopped Virgil's Aeneid from being burnt.Kacey Crainhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13492997736737601983noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5516189026477178777.post-72220891747757311052020-12-27T23:44:26.508+01:002020-12-27T23:44:26.508+01:00I appreciate the great review and I'm working ...I appreciate the great review and I'm working on getting the rights to the other two.

John P.John Pugmirehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12370413146195052806noreply@blogger.com
