I was bounding to the checkout when I woke up. I was in a bad mood that whole day.Sextonblakenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5516189026477178777.post-77494069300612991802011-09-17T17:58:42.291+02:002011-09-17T17:58:42.291+02:00It's probably knocking around somewhere with C...It's probably knocking around somewhere with Carr's "The Six Black Reasons" and "Pirate's Way"....Patrickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01844617192737950378noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5516189026477178777.post-13804865672117570032011-09-17T12:26:47.636+02:002011-09-17T12:26:47.636+02:00Well, there would've been undoubtedly more boo...Well, there would've been undoubtedly more books were it not for her untimely passing as she was working on a new novel at the time of her dead, but apparently nobody knows what happened with it. So there's another drop in the well of lost detective stories.TomCathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03415176301265218101noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5516189026477178777.post-71005197531300653602011-09-17T10:19:00.671+02:002011-09-17T10:19:00.671+02:00I'm pleased that all her stuff is still in pri...I'm pleased that all her stuff is still in print, as I was able to get her entire opus pretty cheaply a few years ago. The sad thing is that it is so small. There are some writers that simply ought to be made to write more quickly!Sextonblakenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5516189026477178777.post-66941404681250342952011-09-15T09:39:28.831+02:002011-09-15T09:39:28.831+02:00@Arun

She's more interested in the causal effect a murder (if it was committed in a parallel La-la land) would have instead of the actual investigation, but it's done so well that you can't but let her get away with it. What a shame she died at such a relatively young age.

@Patrick

Do I have any shame? Did Ted Bundy ever show a flicker genuine remorse for his misdeeds? ;)

@JonJ

Thanks for the tip!TomCathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03415176301265218101noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5516189026477178777.post-75337685722002424752011-09-15T07:54:37.235+02:002011-09-15T07:54:37.235+02:00The BBC pilot was made into a radio comedy series ...The BBC pilot was made into a radio comedy series called (I think) 'The Mausoleum Club', which featured a different weekly story with a number of distinguished guest stars. Training would include alibi building, murder weapon selection for their intended victims, body disposal techniques, courses on poison, anatomy and other related topics. The ending part of the book involves a final test to the 5 students - they must attempt a murder on a very special invited guest for that day's dinner party - without the guest getting harmed or realizing that an attempt has been made on him. Absolutely hilarious! And of course, the actual murder of the student's bodyguard takes a back seat amidst all this drama but eventually, it is fairly concluded towards the end - exactly like in the wooden overcoat. One gets a feeling that the author's main theme in all her novels tend towards entertaining the readers on the comedy of errors that could ensue around a totally pointless death of an irrelevant character rather than concentrating on the murder itself and its victim(as in a traditional detective story) without totally deserting the conventions of a mystery novel.Arunnoreply@blogger.com
