I really need to binge this series. Knowing me, I'll probably end up trying to hunt down The Maze Agency instead tho. :P

----The Dark OneAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5516189026477178777.post-17313987360227098022017-05-14T18:08:59.574+02:002017-05-14T18:08:59.574+02:00I think what sets Bourbon apart from the rest is t...I think what sets Bourbon apart from the rest is that Aoyama gave him so many identities, character connections and history in comparison to other characters. I think there were a couple of these 'tragic impossible shorts' though that were often featured at the end of a volume around that publication period (last three files in a volume). However, I would agree that his character was rather directionless and one-note. On the surface, Eisuke was not the standard high-school/rival detective who populate Aoyama's world, but really never went pass the clever klutz who appeared completely clueless. Good to know the Bourbon story-line is better handled. Yes, I loved the trick as well.

About the foreshadowing in the arson case... did you mean Conan's comment about Sherlock Holmes fans? Did that gave too much away? And what did you think of the impossible crime story? TomCathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03415176301265218101noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5516189026477178777.post-25587315757743289022017-05-07T18:59:21.170+02:002017-05-07T18:59:21.170+02:00I really like the Karaoke Box story, and I always ...I really like the Karaoke Box story, and I always forget it's also Eisuke's final story. I have seen the same trick before, true, but I really like how it's clued. I was never really a fan of Eisuke though: his storyline never had much direction, as he was just a suspicious person thrown in the story w/o much more going on than him being suspicious. The Bourbon storyline is a lot better with a similar initial set-up.

I was just paging through my own copy when I realized that the burned-down house story has a pretty neat form of foreshadowing, which is probably either lost in translation, or made too clear, making it lose its subtlety.
