The negotiations are difficult.

@PuzzleDoc:

You've already spent a lot of time in the company of Corbett and Ranulf and I think Judge Amerotke now deserves some quality time. I would also love to read your opinion on The Anubis Slayings (best one I have read thus far).TomCathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03415176301265218101noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5516189026477178777.post-59960025123734939302011-12-11T14:05:37.084+01:002011-12-11T14:05:37.084+01:00I'd recommend the early Brother Athelstan book...I'd recommend the early Brother Athelstan books - The Nightingale Gallery is a great locked room and out for a pittance on Kindle.

Great review, by the way, TomCat. Now I'm torn between going to Egypt as per Patrick's suggestion or going back to Hugh and Ranulf... I'm two books away from The Devil's Hunt, but there is Spontaneous Human Combustion in one of them...Puzzle Doctorhttp://www.classicmystery.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5516189026477178777.post-63302993035793789372011-12-11T13:58:01.586+01:002011-12-11T13:58:01.586+01:00There may be no locked room, but you might like AN...There may be no locked room, but you might like AN ANCIENT EVIL. One of the few books to give me nightmares, it's a very good combination of supernatural horror and mystery. It's not perfect, but it's a book I could embrace and whose flaws I could easily look past.Patrickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01844617192737950378noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5516189026477178777.post-81242658219292270132011-12-11T11:32:41.912+01:002011-12-11T11:32:41.912+01:00Do the same thing as I did: just pick one up at ra...Do the same thing as I did: just pick one up at random and allow yourself to be surprised. I went into it with little to no expectations, but ended up being favorably impressed – despite one or two minor disappointments along the way.

The biggest fault I can find in Doherty is that I have yet to see him come up with a locked room scenario that can match the one from The Anubis Slayings.TomCathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03415176301265218101noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5516189026477178777.post-47467361542701906292011-12-10T22:34:26.219+01:002011-12-10T22:34:26.219+01:00Thanks for another interesting review. The Egyptian ones are good, but I need to judge how good the others are.Monte Herridgenoreply@blogger.com
