Because Moriarty's job probably required more work than just a series of astute deductions.
TomCathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03415176301265218101noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5516189026477178777.post-1082042205757316322016-07-12T04:22:29.581+02:002016-07-12T04:22:29.581+02:00The Paget illustration of Moriarty makes him seem ...The Paget illustration of Moriarty makes him seem a bit older than Holmes, but not by much. He has to have been reasonably strong because he engaged in hand-to-hand combat with Holmes at the Reichenbach Falls, and Holmes was quite strong, as we see in the poker incident in The Speckled Band. So I don't think he was particularly old.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5516189026477178777.post-49766320383145130942016-07-11T08:15:20.423+02:002016-07-11T08:15:20.423+02:00Maybe it has been too long since I thoroughly read...Maybe it has been too long since I thoroughly read Conan Doyle, but this Holmes and Watson did not always, exactly, acted like the original ones.

This Holmes tended to be more fallible than the original one and then there were such discrepensies as them meeting a young Moriarty. I might have the image of Moriarty from the Jeremy Brett series too tightly lodged in my mind, but I recall that even in the original stories Moriarty was presented as a much older man than Holmes and Watson.

So you can argue that this Holmes and Watson are from an alternative universe. I..."... resemble a bloated canal corpse." I will have to remember that one.

It would be strange for Boucher to take liberties with the Holmes stories because he was a member of the Baker Street Irregulars. He also wrote the mystery novel The Case of the Baker Street Irregulars.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
